The 2014 Conservative Political Action Conference ( CPAC ) has always been the most entertaining part of the year for conservatives. From the tenth annual CPAC with Ronald Reagan in 1977, I have been hooked on them. I still recall Rush Limbaugh in 2009 with his epic ad-lib speech. While some may view CPAC as a kind of pep rally like in high school days, I view CPAC as a window into the souls of the speakers revealing how much of a conservative they may be, or moderate for that matter.
In my humble opinion a moderate can not be our nominee. Put up a McCain, or a Romney type moderate again, and we lose. Conservatives stay home on Election day, simple as that. However, the biggest landslide elections in modern times was Ronald Reagan’s two elections. He, also attacked by the RINO Republicans of his day, much in the same way Ted Cruz, Sarah Palin, Mike Lee, Michele Bachmann and others have been.
Listening to Governor Christie one could tell, this is a man the liberals would love to be our nominee. Have you noticed how Chris Mathews and others say he should be our nominee? Why is that? A) Because Christie has policies that are liberal and they condone them. B) They also know put Christie up against any Democrat and conservatives will stay home. Hence another Democrat President. Christie’s telling line during CPAC was that we should not point out what is wrong, but give solutions. True to the giving solutions part, but not point out what is wrong? Has this man ever heard of multi-tasking. We must point out what is wrong, or no one on the left, or no Independent would ever be won over.
Then there was Mitch McConnell. This man seemed desperate. Promising if he filled Harry Reid’s shoes in the Senate he would work hard to promote the conservative cause. Yet, he has not done that yet to date. He caves, as Boehner does. He could be promoting conservative causes now, he doesn’t have to wait. He is one that must go. Along with the list of Boehner, Grahmn, McCain, and others that are just plain ‘ole moderates. (in some cases, practically Liberal!).
Ah, but there was sunshine in CPAC 2014. Sarah Palin was so entertaining with her tribute to Ted Cruz by doing her take on Green Eggs and Ham. I found it very funny. Yet Liberals days later used this against her as another characterization of her not being smart. They have no clue that this woman, the most popular Governor at the time, fought corruption in her own party, is one heck of a intelligent woman that Obama, and Biden could not compare to.
More sunshine came from John Bolton. This man has always been admired by me. His theme was National Security. Going so far to say the most risk to our national security is Obama himself. Then rattled off so many examples of this. I feel in a Republican administration this man would make one heck of a Secretary of State or Defense. His time in the Bush administration I felt was a highlight of the times.
Rand Paul had a simple message. While simple, was also true. Elect lovers of Liberty. If that was the criteria we use, we could not lose. While I admire Rand Paul, I did not agree with his confirming vote for Hagel as Secretary of Defense. I still scratch my head thinking that was he thinking! However, over-all Rand Paul is a good man.
Ted Cruz to me is the reincarnation of Reagan. Hated by his own party as Reagan was, this man is the best conservatives has to offer at this time. Who could forget what he said in September of 2013 about Obamacare, the liberal’s calling him a lunatic, then less than 3 months later Obama does the same things under his “Hey, I will just change Obamacare without Congress as many times as I want” agenda. Ted Cruz spoke for nearly twenty minutes, and he was fantastic. If you ever have a chance go to Youtube and search for videos of his father giving a speech. That man is great too!
A surprise at CPAC for me was a man I admired for many years. Pat Caddell. This man, a conservative strategist, is the most intelligent speaker I hear each time I listen to him. While he can be humorous at rare times, his speeches are serious to the point where you just sit and your jaw is agape. He did not disappoint at CPAC 2014. An expert at the failings of the media, congress, and the administration. Pat laid down a litany of offenses. I also noted the crowd cheered him the most of all speakers.
While there were many who spoke at CPAC 2014, about 25 in all. it was clear to me that when a moderate spoke, the crowd was semi-silent. When a true conservative spoke, they were on their feet applauding. It also should be pointed out, once again, in my humble opinion, that true conservatives are the most intelligent of all politicians. While Nancy Pelosi can’t get her Constitution quotes right, or Harry Reid not caring “why would we want to do that” In response to helping children with cancer, and each Democrat you hear, they all sound so intellectually stunted. Yet it is they who try to paint conservatives as out of touch, or not smart. CPAC showed the best of the best on stage. Again, like a pep rally, but so great to watch.
Vote Conservative 2014!
